Crumpler's ‘Made in Melbourne’ collection is locally made in our 'Bag House' workshop, located in the heart of Melbourne. Our small but mighty team of skilled bag makers has relocated from our beloved Fitzroy workshop to Globe Alley in the city centre.

Each bag showcases the fun of Crumpler design and the impeccable cut and sewn process, carefully carried out by our expert team. With a focus on small-batch production, we ensure every bag stands the test of time. Each one is complete with an original ‘Made in Melbourne’ badge, sewn inside and marked with a unique number in chronological order, along with its date of birth.
Our quest for Bag Glory continues.

From the start our dream was to return to Melbourne’s city centre and manufacture bags in a space reminiscent of our Flinders Lane beginnings.

After a year-long search, we found the perfect spot on Swanston Street – a beautiful heritage building with raw surfaces, high ceilings and concrete finishes. Simon O'Brien from Six Degrees Architects embraced the building’s history, including 1920s re-work, adding practicalities to the space. The result is a vibrant workshop where we’re inspired to create bags in Melbourne again.

A heavy-weight classic Cordura fabric. Made from high tenacity nylon 6,6 Cordura yarn, this fabric is incredibly strong. Highly tear-resistant and abrasion resistant making this an excellent fabric for making ultra-tough bags. Made even more water-resistant specifically for Crumpler.

This fabric has a hydrostatic head rating of 1,000mm, meaning it can withstand water pressure equivalent to a 1 metre column of water before moisture begins to penetrate, as measured by hydrostatic head testing.

A mid-weight regenerated Nylon fabric. Made from high-tenacity nylon 6 Kodra with a ripstop weave for extra tear strength. The waxed coating increases water resistance and also gives a unique look and handfeel. Made from 100% pre-consumer nylon waste.

This fabric has a hydrostatic head rating of 500mm, meaning it can withstand water pressure equivalent to a 50cm column of water before moisture begins to penetrate, as measured by hydrostatic head testing.

A mid-weight recycled polyester fabric with a ripstop weave. The ripstop grid helps boost tear resistance and adds a subtle textured feel. It’s water resistant and made from 100% recycled PET bottles, and it’s mainly used as the lining inside our bags.

A cotton canvas made in Scotland Dundee, by Halley Stevensons - who have been making waxed canvas fabrics since 1864. The fabric features a soft brushed herringbone weave, completed with an 'aero' finish. A special dry wax coating that offers the water resistant properties of a traditional waxed coating without the waxy feel. The fabric will offer a soft aged appearance, keeping all the character of natural cotton.

Made from 100% BCI cotton, the canvas is a natural fabric. BCI refers to the ‘Better Cotton Initiative', which works to improve the sustainability of cotton farming. They apply strict rules from farming standards, soil health, pesticides through to social & working standards.
